Karambar lake trek is one of the most diverse treks in northern areas of Pakistan and has many entry and exit points to the lake. It is also one of the most beautiful treks. Karambar lake lies on the boundary of Broghil valley in Chitral and Ishkoman valley in Gilgit Baltistan. The easy and shortest route to Karambar lake is from Chitral side (via Mastuj, Broghil valley). You need a minimum of 6 days for this trek from Chitral.
As I came to know about issues in taking NOC for Karomber Lake. I just visited last week (June 2018) that awesome landscape. So I am going to mention steps for receiving NOC.
You need to send an application for permission to DC office Chitral with all details of visitors. Name, Age, Location and send it the following Fax#: 0943-412421
You can follow up your application with Chitral DC Control Office Chitral. Call on the following number. Phone#: 0943-412055
You will get NOC from DC Office Chitral after verification from Chitral scouts. You must make five copies of the NOC document. You need to provide a copy to every check post.
Now you can move forward to Mastuj from Chitral. After reaching Mastuj, You need to visit Chitral scouts headquarters where they will issue a new NOC from Pakistan Army. This step was not easy and it was very hard to convince them But we were passionate enough to visit. That is why they allowed us to visit but with certain conditions. You can see conditions in the attached image.
After getting NOC from Mastuj, you can go forward to Korambar lake. Chitral scouts will take your id cards in their custody and will return on your way back.
These steps were followed by us and they might change in the future as per requirement. Make sure you confirm from DC Office Chitral. These steps were followed in June-2018 to get NOC.
Following are both NOCs provided by DC office and Chitral Scouts HQ.
