Darkut village, Yasin Valley.
The Yasin Valley, and in particular the characters it produced, had played a leading role in the history of the region. Continually fought over by the rulers of both Chitral and Gilgit, Yasin came to the attention of Victorian Britain following the murder of British explorer George Hayward in the upper reaches of the valley.
The valley is well watered, and in the lower reaches in particular there is extensive cultivatable land. Yasin is probably seen at its best in late August, as the wheat and maize are approaching harvest.
